Session #15 - 12 Months to Memories
Making a Splash: Let Your Photos and Embellishments Tell the Story
Some memories just feel like summer.
The sound of kids laughing in the pool.
The splash of water hitting the pavement.
The bright sunshine.
The silly poses and unexpected moments that make you smile every time you look back at the photos.
Those are the memories we're celebrating in Session 15 of 12 Months to Memories!
For this layout, we're diving into backyard swimming fun using the Poolside Paradise collection and one of my favorite Go-To Designs: The 2/3 - 1/3 Layout.
And here's the best part...
This layout is simple.
Because sometimes simple is exactly what your photos need.
Let Your Photos Shine
When you have a lot of fun photos, you don't always need a complicated page design.
The goal isn't to create a layout that competes with your pictures.
The goal is to create a layout that showcases them.
The 2/3 - 1/3 Go-To Design gives us the perfect framework:
A larger area to feature multiple photos
A smaller section to add accents, journaling and personality
A balanced design that works with lots of different themes
Once the foundation is in place, the photos get to be the star.
The Magic Is in the Details
One of my favorite things about collections like Poolside Paradise is that the embellishments do so much of the storytelling for you.
The die cuts.
The stickers.
The mat cards.
They are designed to make your pages come together quickly while adding those fun little touches that bring the layout to life.
Instead of wondering:
"What else does this page need?"
Let the collection answer that question.
A sticker here.
A die cut there.
A fun phrase or mat card to highlight the story.
Simple choices can create a beautiful finished page.
Stop Overcomplicating Your Scrapbook Pages
I think sometimes we make scrapbooking harder than it needs to be.
We think we need:
lots of techniques
complicated cuts
dozens of embellishments
hours of planning
But sometimes the most successful pages come from a simple formula:
Great photos + a solid layout design + a few finishing touches = a page you'll love.
That's it.
Remember the Story Behind the Photos
As you create this swimming layout, think beyond what we see.
Don't just record:
"Swimming in the backyard."
Capture the memories behind the photos:
Who loved being in the pool the most?
Who made the biggest splash?
Was there a favorite float or pool game?
What did summer afternoons look like?
What little moments made everyone laugh?
Those are the details you'll want to remember.
Your Challenge
After creating this layout, I challenge you to look at your photos differently.
Find another set of everyday photos:
a backyard gathering
a family picnic
a summer evening
kids playing outside
Ask yourself:
"Could I use this same simple design again?"
I bet the answer is yes!
That's the beauty of a Go-To Design. Once you find layouts that work, you can use them again and again to preserve more memories.
Because at the end of the day, the goal isn't to create the most complicated page.
The goal is to create pages filled with stories you'll treasure.
Happy Scrapping,
Diane Gutierrez
