Session #20 - 12 Months to Memories
12 Months to Memories – Session #20: Tricks, Treats & Memories
It's time for a little spooky fun!
We’re up to Session #20 of 12 Months to Memories — Scrapbooking for Busy People, and this time we’re creating a fun Halloween layout.
Halloween is one of those holidays where you can end up with a LOT of photos. Costumes, trick-or-treating, parties, pumpkin carving, decorations, school events…the list goes on!
So this layout is designed to help you bring some of those memories together on a couple of pages.
Think Beyond the Costume
When we think about Halloween photos, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the costume.
And those photos are definitely worth including!
But don't forget about all the little things that make Halloween memorable.
Maybe you have photos of:
Decorating the house
Carving pumpkins
Making Halloween treats
Trick-or-treating
Halloween parties
School celebrations
Visiting a pumpkin patch
Funny or unexpected moments
The decorations in your neighborhood
Those little details can help tell the whole Halloween story, rather than just showing what everyone wore.
Add a Little Surprise
For this layout, we're also going to have some fun with an element that isn't just decorative.
Consider adding a flap, pocket, or hidden journaling spot to your page.
It's a simple way to include something extra without making the layout feel crowded.
You might hide:
More photos
A little story
A favorite Halloween memory
A funny quote
A journaling card
Think of it as a little surprise waiting to be discovered!
And this is one of those techniques that you can use again and again on other layouts—not just Halloween pages.
Choosing Your Photos
If you have a lot of Halloween photos, don't feel like you have to use them all.
Start by choosing the photos that tell the best story.
Look for a combination of:
A favorite larger photo — Maybe the perfect costume shot.
Smaller action photos — Trick-or-treating, games, parties, or activities.
Detail photos — Pumpkins, decorations, candy, or other little things you want to remember.
A fun candid — Sometimes the photo you didn't plan to take becomes your favorite!
Remember, we're not trying to create a photographic record of everything that happened.
We're creating a page that helps you remember what it was like to be there.
Make It Your Own
One of my favorite things about scrapbooking is that you can take a basic layout and make it completely yours.
Change the colors.
Move the photos.
Add more embellishments.
Leave some things off.
Add journaling.
Use a different collection.
The goal isn't to make your page exactly like mine.
The goal is to use the design as a starting point and create a page that tells your story.
20 Sessions Down!
Can you believe we're already at Session #20?
We've been working our way through 12 Months to Memories one layout at a time, and there are still more memories to scrapbook!
If you've been participating along the way, take a minute to look back at the pages you've created.
If you've missed some sessions, that's okay too. You can always go back and work through them at your own pace.
That's the whole idea behind Scrapbooking for Busy People.
You don't have to scrapbook everything.
You don't have to finish an entire album in a weekend.
Just choose some photos, make a page, and keep moving forward.
One layout at a time. One memory at a time. ❤️
Now grab those Halloween photos, gather your supplies, and let's get scrapping!
I'll see you for Session #20 of 12 Months to Memories!
